THE INDUSTRIAL PIONEER
The Industrial Pioneer was launched on Merseyside in 1959. The founder, Joe Hancock, had been a well-known militant Marxist in the port of Liverpool and the port of London. He experienced a profound spiritual and social reorientation. Together with trade union friends in Liverpool and the port of London, he published The Waterfront and Industrial Pioneer to express his new found democratic thinking.
The paper aimed to give a constructive angle to news, to expose prejudice and injustice, to encourage the change in people which produces new attitudes and to agitate for 'what is right' for everyone.
Hancock entrusted the paper to friends he felt could develop its message and outreach. They operate on a voluntary basis. Its correspondents have wide international experience in the fields of industry and labour. Each month The Industrial Pioneer goes to hundreds of workers in our major industries, to their trade union officials, and national executives, to management, press and Parliament. It has readers in over 20 countries.
