East Nottingham MP Chris Leslie opened the seventh annual Unity Day in the St Ann’s district of Nottingham on 17 July, 2011. A steel band and drummers played lively music on an outdoor stage as hundreds thronged to enjoy community activities on the Robin Hood Chase.

Artists at the library, play-workers and a bouncy Undersea Fun Run engaged children creatively and energetically. The Anglican and Baptist Churches on the Chase joined in providing refreshments and activities, as did other local groups.

The Holding Hands/Sing St. Ann's theme song led to a showcase of songs, poems and readings from local schools and community groups.

At mid-afternoon everyone was called together to hold hands in a giant circle; then, in silence, to reflect on how they could reach out to other people, especially those who may be different--and make St Ann's an even better place to live in--in unity.

The annual Unity Days originated from, and are fed by, action related to IofC’s 'Hope in the Cities' dialogues at the Chase Neighbourhood Centre.
