An autobiography from Papua New Guinea

Alice Wedega was born in 1905 in her mother's village on the south-eastern tip of what was then Papua. Her education was elementary, but at an early age she came under the influence of the London Missionary Society at tiny Kwato Island. Here, she tells the story of her first surprising contact with headhunters, of how her horizons widened as she got the chance to travel, of how she became the first woman member of the Papua New Guinea Legislative Council, and how she was able to help the women and girls of the villages with a grass-roots training scheme. She tells of her life of achievement with a simplicity and a humility that will insure that her story is widely read by Papua New Guineans, for whom she is writing.
