Remaking the World: What we can learn from Frank Buchman

Based on a talk in Oxford, January 25, 2024

Introduction (2)

Buchman and his supporters invested a lot of time in trying to address ethnic and racial tensions during the period of decolonisation in the 1950s and 1960s. Here is Buchman with civil and national leaders from the US and Africa during that period.

Buchman lived through a turbulent era in world history, full of war, fear and uncertainty – not unlike our own. As we look ahead to what 2024 might throw up, it is easy to feel a sense of anxiety. What might we learn from how Buchman approached things that could help us respond constructively to the challenges we face? This talk is divided into two sections, each of them containing four parts. In the first of them, I summarise some of Buchman’s attitudes and approaches. The second section focusses on his methods and practices.
