Wars are very bad for tourism, an obvious point. And twice in the life of the Caux Palace, a luxury hotel that opened in 1902, events elsewhere in Europe brought ruin. The buildings housed internees and refugees during World War 2, but in a few weeks, in early 1946 some 100 Swiss individuals and families bought the almost derelict building to make it a place of healing and reconciliation.
