A Historical Journey of Caux - Reconciliation

Image above: Konrad Adenauer, future German Chancellor, in Caux in 1948. Konrad was vital to the reconciliation work.

One of the first important chapters in the life of the conference centre was Caux’s contribution to the reconciliation between enemies of World War 2, notably between France and Germany.

On this page, we present material related to this reconciliation process.

Song above: listen to a song from the beginnings of Caux, sung by a chorus composed mainly of French people (‘the enemy’), in German, to the first Germans arriving in Caux in 1947 or 1948. Digitally remastered in 2020.

Film above: French Socialist and resistance figure Irène Laure tells her story in this historic documentary film. Iréne was another of many key figures in the reconciliation between France and Germany.
