Alain Tate was born in Le Havre, France to an English father and a French mother. He grew up in Paris during World War 2. He struggled with this double identity, and moved to Britain to work in a bank, and it was in the UK that he met Moral Re-Armament. He found a new sense of purpose, and moved back to France where he started working for American Express, becoming a branch manager, before resigning to work ‘full-time’ with MRA.
In 1970, he married Anne-Marie. Together, they travelled widely in Asia. They also cared in France for refugees ffrom the Indo-Chinese conflicts. They were also bridge-builders with Lebanon and Africa.
