Susan P. Corcoran (nee Susan Thornhill) has worked full-time with Initiatives of Change (IofC) for more than 50 years. Her involvement with It's Our Country Jack, Anything to Declare?, Time to Choose and other stage productions took her to Europe, India, Australasia, and South Africa. In 1976 she married Rob Corcoran, author, trainer, and facilitator. They made their home for 40 years in Richmond, Virginia. Together they launched Hope in the Cities as a local initiative, but it has become a nationally and internationally recognized programme for racial reconciliation.
During these years, Susan served in numerous roles, including as an IofC USA Board Member, communications director, budget and grants manager, as well as events and conference coordinator. Her creative input contributed to the design of flagship programmes such as the Community Trustbuilding Program for community leaders and the Caux Scholars Program for international students. She was born in California but spent much of her childhood traveling with plays written by her father Alan Thornhill. Her schooling was mostly on the road or at the IofC conference centers at Caux and Mackinac. Her American mother, Barbara van Dyke, cooked for Frank Buchman and was one of those who pioneered the hospitality that IofC became known for.
Susan and Rob have three sons and four granddaughters and now live in Austin, Texas.
