Leena Khatri

Responsible for training programmes in India

Leena Khatri, nee Rege, born in 1952 in Mumbai India.

Family met Moral Re-Armament while in Poona in 1964 through David and Margot Young and Matt and Margie Manson who were part of the troupe of the musical show Space is so startling.  Soon the family was involved in the lead up to the creation of the Centre Asia Plateau in Panchgani, a 100 km or so outside Poona.

While she continued her schooling and beyond, she was able to attend several youth training camps conducted by MRA and was drawn into the movement to build a ‘Clean, strong and united India’. This included being part of a stage production called India Arise and later after completing a Masters degree with a major in French language and literature, was part of another MRA musical show Song of Asia, which later toured Europe and also Canada at the invitation of the First Nations Chiefs of Alberta.

Along with husband Suresh Khatri of Fiji Islands, and then two daughters Aparna and Namita, they have been based as full-time volunteers with MRA/IofC in Fiji and in India for the last 50 years.

They have been led to work largely in training programmes for young people. From 2001 to 2011 they were with Action for Life. Over 100 young people from all over the world were involved with a cohort of 20 or so at a time, five in all, travelling, learning and sharing their learnings with people along the way.

With Mike and Jean Brown who were also part of Action for Life, partly based at ‘Asia Plateau’, Leena and Suresh also started International Internship programmes. About 350 youth have experienced this programme.

In the first decade of this century Leena also served on the International Council of IofC for four years.
