The Spiritual Vision of Frank Buchman reviewed in the Church Times

Tidsskrift:
The Church Times (14 March 2014), carries a review of Dr Philip Boobbyer’s book, The Spiritual Vision of Frank Buchman

The leading UK Anglican weekly, The Church Times (14 March 2014), carries a review of Dr Philip Boobbyer’s book, The Spiritual Vision of Frank Buchman, by Peter Forster, the Bishop of Chester. He writes, ‘Philip Boobbyer, from The University of Kent, has provided a definitive and well-written portrait, which will be of enduring value, of Buchman and his vision.’

Part of the review reads: ‘[Buchman] believed that life always needed moral discipline, and that everyone should have a daily “quiet time” in which they could examine, and feed, their conscience. For Buchman, our conscience is the primary stage on which we encounter the Holy Spirit. Although a committed Christian, and influenced by the Keswick Convention, he was keen to avoid limiting God’s work to formal religious or church circles. He recognised the work of the Holy Spirit in other religious traditions, in a way that anticipated some later writers.’
