Ahmed Surur was born in Eritrea and did his schooling until end of high school in Asmara. He studied Social science and Economics at university in Rome; and later a post-graduate diploma at the University of Geneva. He worked in the field of finance in Geneva from 1983 and until his retirement in 2017 at the age of 65. He lives in Geneva with his Swiss wife. He is the father of two young adults.
